Boardgame unboxing: Wasteland express delivery service

Wasteland express delivery service comes in what you would call a big box, not a standard boardgame big box but almost twice as thick. When picking it up you can immediately notice it's weight and that there is not a lot of air in this box… so… let's open it up 😊

When you first open it you see rules, and underneath them is a fat stack of cardboard and a lot of plastic inserts, and since the box is really not oversized the inserts aren’t empty even at this point. Just seeing these inserts makes your inner OCD jump up in joy.

Opening the cardboard stack you see 14 good quality punch out boards. As I said not all the inserts are empty inside one of them are two stacks of cards and one polybag of playing dice, inside another is a small bunch of plastic minnies. Cards when opened are a bit thin for my taste, I personally prefer MTG card thickness, and this is more on the lines of Legendary. The dice are beautifully carved and are a bit on the edgy side, but this does not seem to effect the rolling (we will see better when played).

The minnies are solid quality, not really on the level of FFG or CMON, but solid for their size.

Punching out the boards was not a problem even for this amount of content. All the tokens punched out nicely and there was no tearing of cardboard. When everything is punched out (and it does take time) there is a humungous amount of cardboard tokens… now let’s sort them out.

In the rules there is an explanation for sorting stuff in the plastic inserts but not for everything. For the things that are not explained you just need to look at the components (sort players by looking at the player boards and match each player with his own vehicle).

Also in the rules there is a diagram on how to place insert’s back in the box WARNING! Like Days of wonder game this game also uses the cardboard “leftovers” to lift stuff in the box so everything would fit perfectly so you would be able to put your box on the shelf in upright position. When assembling everything in the box we did have a little problem with one of the inserts being in a slight angle and not completely horizontal, but let’s not dwell on tiny issues when you have THE BEST BOX EVER!!!

All in all we are very happy with the production quality of this game. It is more than obvious that this game was made with love and care. Let’s just hope that gameplay itself is as polished as this box… If it is this will be one hell of a game!
